The Human-Centered Security Lab at Marienpark Berlin / Technology to safeguard society.
Marienpark is an innovation quarter in the south of Berlin, in which players from business, science, culture, and society are creating a future-oriented ecosystem. Once home to the former Mariendorf gasworks, the site was already a flourishing industrial location in the 20th century.
Today, Marienpark is a hub for established companies, start-ups, and scale-ups from a range of sectors, primarily from the tech industry and other knowledge-intensive industries such as the life sciences, artificial intelligence (AI), security technology (SecTech), GovTech, and the circular economy.
Because technological developments for protecting critical infrastructure play a significant role in ensuring a society's resilience, the Marienpark has provided a space to test selected technologies under realistic conditions and make the solutions tangible for users. Rooms have been made available that are dedicated to this purpose.
We call these spaces „living laboratories“.
Human-Centered Security Lab
The real-world laboratory demonstrates how a secure access process to critical infrastructures can be designed, here exemplified by a data center.
This requires a multitude of specialized solutions and a holistic integration approach.
In order to ensure that individuals do not lose their orientation in this process and that everyone's privacy is protected as best as possible, only solutions that follow a human-centered design approach are considered.
Visitor management & identity verification
essentry is a user-friendly, efficient, and secure access management system. The core product is the verification of personal identities at border-control level and the automation of the access process.
Acess management
Access control systems enable the authentication of users and prevent unauthorized access to defined areas. Access solutions from e-shelter security make the transition between two security zones secure and user-centered.
Smart locker
Bags and valuable items can be stored securely and conveniently in a Smart locker. The lockers can be used ad hoc without booking and can be opened and locked with the RFID card.
Bodyscanner
The R&S®QPS product family from Rohde & Schwarz represents highly reliable security scanners that enable completely contactless, safe, comfortable, and efficient personal security checks thanks to state-of-the-art and industry-leading technology
Rack locking and monitoring
Electronic rack locking enables controlled opening of racks by authorized persons. Access authorizations are managed in the central access control system. At the same time, the door status (closed and locked) as well as the temperature and humidity are monitored.
Security control center
The 24/7 manned control center from e-shelter security enables central security management. The visualization of sensors, hazard detection systems and events from the access process in digitized building plans enables targeted alarm processing and remote management, e.g. the accompaniment of body screening or virtual patrols.

With over two decades of experience in the protection and operation of data centers, e-shelter security implements integrated security solutions for critical infrastructures. These enable the early detection of threats, automated actions to avert threats and centralized threat management from a security control center.
